Sheet Music
Joshua Allen
Joshua Allen was born September 14, 1983, in Hobbs, New Mexico. He became aware of his interest in music in the sixth grade when he began his instruction on the alto saxophone. While earning a bachelor’s degree in music education as a saxophonist and violist at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, Allen was active in the Wayland Pioneer Marching Band, Wayland Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Wayland Jazz Ensemble, Wayland String Ensemble, and the university chapter of Society of Composers, Inc. Although he enjoys performing and teaching, Allen felt called to compose music of his own.

Despite the absence of a degree in composition at Wayland, Allen studied with Dr.  Gary Belshaw and continued to pursue his hopes of becoming a composer.  Allen has composed several mature works. Notable among these are Altotudes and a symphony in D minor. Recently, Allen has earned a Masters of Music degree in Composition, studying at the Texas Tech University Graduate School of Music with Dr. Peter Fischer. He also teaches middle school and high school orchestra in Lubbock, Texas, at Monterey High School and at the Margaret Talkington School for Young Women Leaders, where he has founded the Composers Club for students interested in writing music.
